CORONATION STREET’S KATHERINE KELLY: HOW SHE CAME TO WEAR THAT HAT….

December 3rd, 2011

Thought you might like to see a few pictures of the lovely Kate when she came to the H’atelier showroom for her first consultation, with her stylist and make-up supremo, the utterly fabulous CHRISTOPHER RAINE , who was responsible for Kate’s spectacular appearance at the Royal Wedding. Kate was charmingly enthusiastic and had a great time trying on lots of hats

(Me in concentrated- and probably bossy- mode….)

KK steals the show without even trying

(I find Kate’s expression in this one somewhat intimidating………….!)

Kate managed effortlessly to add a certain je-ne-sais-quoi  to every hat she tried

And the final result :

Just beautiful!

NEW HAT-TASTIC TEAM MEMBER AT H’ATELIER

Introducing Pearl

Pearl, milliner in the making at H'atelier

A big welcome to Pearl Haslam, my new LA (as in Lovely Assistant) , shown here proudly wearing her very first hat. With her youth, vitality and strong sense of style I’m sure she’s going to be a valuable asset.

GENTLEMEN, PER-LEASE!

August 4th, 2011

I include this from the Guardian because it’s about hats (obviously) but largely for your amusement. Now, I was brought up to respect Importance and Eminence , but occasionally Important, Eminent people get it SO wrong. my comments below – what do you think?

examples of Haute Couture men's hats

Dior Homme: yes, like this one, an honest, WYSIWYG hat you could introduce your Granny to

Givenchy: Mm, well, it’s a fancy baseball cap, innit?

Ann Demeulemeester: kind of Zorro meets Hiawatha (fanciable bloke, though)

Thom Browne: Thom, Thom, what are you thinking of? Fringey lampshades are SO yesterday

Comme des Garcons: Alibaba on the cat walk? Oh no he isn’t! OH YES HE IS!

(Apologies for quality of pic, by the way – just a quick scan from the newspaper)

H’ATELIER, CORONATION STREET & ROYAL WEDDING

August 4th, 2011

Thrilled to be asked by Corrie actress Katherine Kelly to design and make a hat for her to wear to Zara Phillips wedding, because

a) she’s a great actress and a thoroughly nice person

b) we love Coronation Street

c) weddings in a Holyrood House/Balmoral/Royal kind of way don’t  crop up all that often.

And didn’t she look amazing?

Katherine’s outfit has been singled out in the press for being forward-looking, stylish and altogether the Best in Show, and H’atelier is immensely proud to have played a part in her success.

The press and internet coverage has been phenominal, but here’s a few examples:

http://www.thebaglady.tv/

“Corrie actress Katherine Kelly was our most stylish guest of the day, however, as we thought she looked just stunning in her neutral gown and daring choice of oversized orange hat and handbag. The sweeping hat was so elegant, and her classic floppy leather clutch just adorable.”

Eyes were of course on the bride but there were plenty of other eyecatching sights as the celebrity guests rocked up, including Coronation Street starKatherine Kelly, who went to school with groom Mike.

Katherine, who plays Becky McDonald, chose a 70s-inspired one-shoulder peachy dress by James Steward Couture teamed with an orange H’atelier Jen Scott-Russell hat and oversized clutch.

H’ATELIER, HOLLYOAKS STAR & ASCOT

July 29th, 2011

We were delighted to throw open H’atelier’s doors to the lovely MELISSA WALTON,  former Hollyoak’s star, in her quest for the perfect Ascot hat. She would, it’s true to say, look stunning in a binbag, but I think you’ll agree the H’atelier hats add a certain je ne sais quoi.

Click here to see the full story in the Manchester Evening News, and in the meantime here are some sneaky behind-the-scenes pics I took in amongst the photographers, stylists, make-up artists, hardressers, agents, PR etc.etc. Cast of thousands = chaos!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEMMA!

July 24th, 2011

Gemma is a very special lady whose friend Fiona thought she deserved a Very Special Birthday treat…..

so we were delighted when H’atelier was chosen as the start for the evening’s festivities. All it needed was the Birthday Girl, her Mum and sister, best friend Fiona, a bottle (or three) of bubbly and loads of lovely H’atelier hats, and hey presto! a great start to a great evening…..

March 1st, 2011

WELL, TO BE STRICTLY HONEST, NOT US IN PERSON…..

but we feel very honoured to have been asked by Jane Davies OBE to make a hat for her presentation at Buckingham Palace. Our warmest congratulations to Jane , and I’m sure you’ll agree she looks fantastic:

“As you can see, your hat totally ‘made’ my outfit and I felt like a star wearing it.  Thank you very much for helping to make my day.”

Jane Davies OBE

And did you notice the hat co-ordinates not only with Jane’s outfit but with the medal AND the palace carpet too ? There’s serendipity for you!
