ANNA PIAGGI – FASHION LEGEND

“ANNA-CHRONISTIC”

Someone – possibly Karl Lagerfeld – coined this word to describe Anna Piaggi’s unique style – whoever it was, they were spot on! The former editor of Italian Vogue and Vanity is a constant presence on the front row of every major runway show, and , most importantly, is NEVER SEEN WITHOUT A HAT……. That, of course, is the main reason why she’s one of H’atelier’s favourite people, but also because she doesn’t give a toss about trends and fashion but exudes her personal style in a fearless and unmistakable way.

THE INCOMPARABLE IRIS APFEL

Monday, July 12th, 2010

This wonderful lady is an icon and inspiration to me. If you haven’t come across her, now’s your chance – just take a look at this short video  Iris Apfel which sums up her style philosophy pretty neatly, and, co-incidentally, tallies exactly with the H’Atelier credo …….. I only hope I have one iota of  her chic and charisma when I’m 91!

If you’d like to find out more , there’s a great book out too:  ”Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel” by Eric Boman ; apart from the luscious photographs and highly quotable quotes, it’s a fascinating insight into what makes this lady tick.

Death of a Legend

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Mimi Weddell, an inspiration to all free-thinking, creative, independent women everywhere, died last week at the age of 94. Manhattanite, actor, model, but most of all a committed hat-wearer of great style and originality, she was chosen by ‘New York Magazine’ as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in New York – at the age of 90. Mimi was also the subject of a 2008 documentary “Hats Off”, chronicling her famous hat habit which lasted right up until she died aged 94.

“Hats give you a frame,” she said. “However dreary you feel, if you put on a hat, by golly, you’ve changed everything.”

I couldn’t agree more.
